Abortion Clinic of First 40 Days For Life to Close

Bryan, Texas – Planned Parenthood has just announced that the first site of 40 Days For Life in Bryan/College Station will be closing.

In a press release this week, the abortion provider stated that three clinics will be closing, also including those in Huntsville and Lufkin. The press release listed political pressure from the Texas government as the reason for the closures.

Governor Rick Perry signed the House Bill 2346, “The Preborn Pain Act,” into law on Tuesday, which will dramatically affect many abortion clinics by requiring them to be brought up to the standards of ambulatory surgical centers, to ensure safer regulation on the largely unregulated centers. The law also requires abortion doctors to have admitting privileges into hospitals within 30 miles of a clinic, thus making it more difficult to get a doctor from out of town to perform abortions 

“This is what grace truly looks like,” said Abby Johnson, the former director of the Bryan/College Station Planned Parenthood and director and founder of And Then There Were None, a support group for former clinic workers. “Knowing that the former abortion clinic I once ran is now closing is the biggest personal victory of my life. From running that facility, to then advocating for its closure, and now celebrating that dream … it shows that my life has indeed come full circle. I am honored to have worked with so many who helped with my conversion and the closure of this facility. We will continue to fight until every abortion clinic in this country has shut its doors.” 

Marilisa Carney, one of the founders of 40 Days For Life, rejoiced in the news of the closure. “This is wonderful answer to prayer,” said the mother of four, who has been praying at the Bryan clinic since 2001. “After all these years, to see this clinic close is not only a reminder of God’s grace and faithfulness but also an affirmation of own fight against this modern-day scourge that makes what is supposed to be the most tender of relationships – that of a mother to her child – into combatants.”
