Describing her as one of the TIME100 “pioneers,” TIME Magazine chose late-term abortionist Julie Burkhart as one of a hundred people who are transforming the world.
The magazine praised Burkhart for challenging Wyoming’s abortion ban by opening Wellspring Health Access, the state’s only full-service abortion clinic. Burkhart has devoted her entire adult life to terminating inconvenient and problematic pregnancies.
Mentored by the notorious late-term abortion provider George Tiller in Wichita, Kansas, Burkhart has become an abortion mogul in her own right. She is the co-owner of Hope Clinic, an Illinois abortion facility specializing in terminating pregnancies up to 27 weeks and six days.
The TIME accolade is just the most recent honor that Burkhart has garnered. The New York Times published a laudatory article about Burkhart in 2024, which celebrated her “courage” in opening clinics in Wyoming, Kansas, and Oklahoma as well as her Illinois-based Hope Clinic. No mention was made of the fact that Burkhart’s Hope Clinic ends the lives of unborn children at seven months.
A lucrative business, Hope Clinic has experienced a 700% increase in out-of-state patients since abortion restrictions went into effect in neighboring states.
The secular celebration of abortionists is nothing new. In fact, for nearly three decades, there has been an annual event each March 10th to honor abortionists on the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers. Launched in 1996 by “Refuse and Resist,” a now defunct left-wing advocacy organization whose website several years ago demanded that we “Free Mumia Abu Jamal,” Refuse and Resist maintained that the pro-life movement was nothing more than “central headquarters for the proto-fascist popular action forces.”
Unable to reach the mainstream with their harsh rhetoric, Refuse and Resist was replaced by the Abortion Care Network and its gentler message and muffin baskets for abortionists.
Promotional materials for the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers exhort abortion supporters to stand with their abortion services providers and say: “Thank you for your heroism, perseverance, courage and commitment to women.” Much like Valentine’s Day, participants are expected to give gifts of love and appreciation to those who make abortion safe and legal. Gift suggestions include flowers, candy, or a breakfast basket of fruit or muffins. Likening this occasion to a holy day, there is a “sermon and prayer” for abortion providers on the part of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
In the early days, funding for the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers came from the Ford, Hewlett, Packard, Buffett, and Turner foundations. Pro-choice groups, including the ACLU, the National Abortion Rights Action League, as well as Planned Parenthood, the National Organization for Women, Medical Students for Choice, Catholics for a Free Choice, Ms. Magazine, and others have provided endorsements for the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers in the past.
Today, the focus of the Day of Appreciation has moved to the abortionists of the future—the medical students. The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) website states:
Abortion Provider Appreciation Day is a day – as good as any – for those of us who work on the AMSA Reproductive Health Project to reflect on the meaning of our work, in relation to the work of those whom we honor and lift up today. The AMSA Reproductive Health Project has a primary purpose of enriching the abortion provider training pathway by supporting and nurturing future physicians who will provide abortion care as part of their clinical practice…we are kicking things off with a series of social media posts each day this week, with messages of love and affirmation for our abortion care colleagues here in the US and everywhere in the world.
No one, of course, should be surprised that TIME saw fit to honor an abortionist as one of its TIME100 pioneers. Hollywood and the mainstream media have long praised abortion providers. Burkhart has overcome tremendous opposition in Kansas and the other states where she has provided abortion services; detractors called her “Julie Darkheart”. The New York Times reported that Burkhart received death threats when she reopened George Tiller’s late-term abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas, after he was killed by an anti-abortion zealot.
What motivates abortion providers? Whether it is the financial incentive that draws them to the kind of success that Burkhart has experienced, or that they truly believe they are helping women with unwanted pregnancies, it’s difficult to know.
But what we do know is that the stigma that used to accompany abortion providers has lessened considerably. The National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers has done much to contribute to that. The American Medical Student Association is committed to encouraging medical students to work to remove the stigma that “hovers over patients and providers” alike:
Throughout this week and well beyond this week, we are taking action against abortion stigma. Unfounded stigma perpetuated around abortion care hovers over patients and providers alike -– together we can break down these stigma, recognize the harms they cause, and make change in our institutions, practices and communities. To that end we are pleased to announce and invite you to participate in our first AMSA Repro Spring Friend-Raiser! Throughout March and April special opportunities and resources designed to help break down abortion care stigma will be shared via our Repro eNews, Spotlights in AMSA On Call, and local gatherings with AMSA Chapters, members and like-minded colleagues.
But any honest medical student, as well as anyone else with a working knowledge of biology, knows that a human life is destroyed in the act of abortion. There is nothing that can transform the stigma from an act that kills an unborn child, no matter the praise and promotion of TIME magazine.

“Transforming the world” = handing over the culture to Satan.
Agree completely, Deacon Ed.
Truly the work of Satan which Christ Jesus suffered and died on this day to destroy (1 John: 4:8).
“Unfounded stigma”.
Healthy shame I’d call it and as long as people value human life, the stigma will remain.
Of course there are awards for the murderers of children.
The Democratic Party is a death cult. And the Catholics who vote for Democrats have blood on their hands.
And their souls.
Both parties do. Republicans have removed Right to Life from their platform.
Sorry, but Republicans aren’t the ones telling people to shout their abortions. Democrats are the ones arguing for abortion up until the time of birth.
I agree. Anyone who applauds abortion is totally wrong and advocates murder as far as I understand. Shame on them, and may God have mercy on their souls.
Never in the history of Western civilization have so many enthusiastically blasphemed the commandment “Thou shalt not kill” by slaughtering the innocent. Those who persist in mocking this Divine Law are on the way to eternal damnation. Hell will always have vacancies for you.
Abortionists and women who refuse to have more than 2.1 babies in their lifetime are hastening the fact, as yet unrecognized, that in 75 to 100 years from now the world will have experienced a virtually complete collapse of population – 9 billion down to 1 billion, at best, and almost no one will be around to take care of the old people who are still around. So we are supposed to cheer for persons who are supposedly “transforming the world”? That takes a special kind of nescience.
Women are NOT required to have 2.1 kids. They can have as few or as many children as they like. They can even choose to have NO children if they want. It’s none of your business.
Absolutely. Both women and men have free wills and can choose to found a family or not. The point was about how those decisions can affect society.
Nicole, No one said they are “required” to do anything. Obviously I was presenting the average. If you personally don’t want children, that’s your business. Good luck.
And, the original point was about the celebration of abortion as a technique for unwinding the existence of unborn children. “None of your business,” you [Nicole C.} say? How about a big “business”–the abortion industry, so big that it even sucks in federal tax money!
And, other than the long-term demographics, there’s also the seamless-garment effects on society…from abortion, to recreational sex, to random sex of all stripes, to LGBTQ tribalism, to grooming, to gender theory and transgenderism, to Time Magazine somnambulism. “Society?” What society?
Nicole C.: No, it’s God’s business. God is the Author of life. Man get to participate in God’s divine act of creation. Those who seek to remove God as Creator and think tmhe or she is in charge of ‘calling the shots’ will pay a price for their sin of pride.
The day approaches when she will stand alone and hear that awful question “What have you done with your life?”

The culprit: sexual intercourse outside of marriage. End the practice and abortion rates plummet. End the practice and marriage is strengthened. When marriages are strong, the culture is improved. When marriages are strong divorce rates plummet and children develop normally.
Does anyone still pay attention to Time magazine these days? This seems more an attempt to keep the publication relevant.
Sure, this woman is transforming her world but not in a good way .
Mrs Cracker;
Your 5:30 a.m.
Good point. I can”t remember the last time I even picked up an edition of time, much less read it through.
The woman they lionized – what was her name? I forgot it already.
Lucky me.
Lucky you indeed Mr. Terence.
🙂
Per Wikipedia, since 2018, Time has been owned by Marc Benioff of Sales Force fame. The editor since April 2023 has been one Sameul Posin Jacobs. It’s always good to know the names of the people who run the institutions.
Excellent info. Tony W. Now we need biographical details on them both.
How tragically ironic that this death peddler’s name means “strong protection.” I do wonder how these abortionists will respond as they age, and the youthful generation deems them “unaffordable,” “an inconvenience,” and a life “worthless” and “unhealthy” for those more vigorous and contributory. I recall the late Father Paul Marx (Apostle for Life) forewarning of euthanasia as the next felled domino in the culture of death. Mother Teresa attributed wars to the war against the womb.
I wonder if she is possessed? Otherwise, how could she go along with killing fully viable babies?
