The Dispatch: More from CWR...

A brief note on our new design and comments function [UPDATED]

We’ve already received many kind words from our faithful readers about Catholic World Report’s new look, which we’re bringing online today. We hope you will find it to be not only more attractive but also easier to read and navigate, particularly on mobile devices.

We’re still in the process of catching and fixing bugs and glitches—we appreciate your patience as we iron out the remaining wrinkles.

Several readers have asked about our new comments function—after receiving a lot of feedback from regular readers and commenters, we decided not to use Disqus on the new CWR. We’ve encountered a couple issues with the new system that we hope to have resolved very soon; once it is fixed, we hope you will find our new commenting function easier and more intuitive to use. [Update 6/2: Comments are now up and running! Thanks for your patience!] All comments will still be moderated by the Catholic World Report editorial team, and our civility policy remains in place.

Thanks for your patience as we polish things up!

  1. I find the new design annoying (I refuse to own “mobile devices”, much less care “to navigate them”).
And getting rid of the DISQUS was a mistake.

    • I completely agree with you Agnieszka. I don’t have mobile devices either. In order to comment here I borrowed my sister’s tablet, because in our family of four we have only one computer with minimal access, and we don’t need more. So, I stop here. It was great reading and participating in CWR discussions. God bles you and all.

  2. I think the redesign is a mess. Searching the archives is tedious to say the least, and where did all the comments go? “Be the first to comment” I read, when looking at an archived piece that I know once listed 112 comments. It really is disrespectful to those who took the time to read and comment, (and I can’t comment using my android) so why bother in the future?
